ALEXANDROS DAMTSAS COLLECTION

At the first floor of " Giorgio de Chirico " at 3 Metamorfoseos str ., is exhibited the work of Alexandros Damtsas with pieces from his personal collection and from other painters.

Part s of his collection are articles from national and international press of foreign reporters and artists which present Greece throughout the Turkish occupation, as well as Greek and international maps from this period.

 
 


The exhibition concerns different time periods and styles such as lithography and copperplate engraving. Paintings from 17 th - 19 th century with topics from Greek Revolution , images of Turkish and Greek people , portraits of young ladies, misters and misses wearing costumes of this time period and presenting all kind of relations between Turks and Greeks.

During Modern Greek engraving the subjects refer to Greeks ' Liberation and the crucial role of ministers. The category of Pioneers presents portraits and landscapes of nature with intense colors.

Nikos Hatzikyriakos-Gikas (1906-1994), a well known painter presents his two paintings "Foliages" and "Birds".

There're exhibited black and white pictures of Volos , alleys, the church of Goritsa at Anavros area, Chania of Crete and Agia of Larissa presenting women spinning.
